Concrete Polishing Systems
Mechanically polished concrete flooring systems delivering durability, low maintenance, and a refined finish.

Diamond Polished Concrete Flooring
Diamond polished concrete flooring is a cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and durable flooring solution for both new construction and refurbishment projects. Polished concrete is well suited for facilities seeking a long-lasting, low-maintenance floor with a clean, finished appearance.
Polishing can be performed on existing concrete slabs to restore worn surfaces or on new concrete to produce durable, high-gloss installations designed for long-term use.
Diamond Polishing Process
Concrete polishing is a mechanical process that uses metal-bonded and resin-bonded diamond tooling to refine and harden the concrete surface.
Using planetary grinding equipment, Abate & Associates begins the process with metal-bonded diamonds to remove the surface cream layer and open the concrete. This step allows for control over the amount of aggregate exposure, which can range from minimal exposure to full aggregate, depending on the desired finish.
Once the surface has been opened and honed through multiple metal-bonded diamond grits, the polishing phase begins.
Polishing and Densification
After initial honing, the concrete is polished using progressive resin-bonded diamond tooling. As the polishing process advances, a concrete densifier is applied to harden the surface, reduce porosity, and improve abrasion resistance.
Additional polishing steps are completed following densification to achieve the desired level of gloss, ranging from matte or satin finishes to high-gloss polished concrete.
To further enhance durability and stain resistance, a polished concrete guard may be applied as a final protective treatment.
Concrete Staining Options
Concrete staining can be incorporated into the polishing process to alter the colour and appearance of the finished floor. Using water-based concrete stains, the tone of the concrete can be adjusted to achieve a semi-transparent, natural finish that maintains the character of the slab.
The selection of staining products is based on the scope of work, environment, and service conditions of the floor. Proper evaluation ensures the staining process complements the polishing system and performs as intended over time.
Designed for Long-Term Performance
Not all concrete is suitable for polishing without evaluation. Abate & Associates assesses slab condition, hardness, aggregate composition, and service requirements before recommending a polishing system.
This approach ensures the finished floor meets performance expectations, appearance goals, and maintenance requirements for the specific facility.
